Thanks to my Aunt Vicki, roasting peeps is a proud tradition in our family.  So, for the past few years the Easter Bunny has brought peeps to our house and we have patiently waited for camping season before we consume them.

Unfortunately, this year we were unable to take a summer camping trip, so our peeps have been sitting, neglected, in the cupboard waiting to be remembered.  Tonight was their night.

The kids and I had a full day of adventuring, so it seemed only appropriate to round our evening off with a nice roasted peep.  Since we don't have a fireplace, I chose an all-natural beeswax candle for our flame and some popsicle sticks for our roasting skewers.  Our peeps were purple and green and inviting...so inviting, in fact, that I ate two and I don't feel bad about it at all.  I'm crazy like that.

For those poor, unfortunate souls who have never had the exquisite pleasure of eating a roasted peep, I pity you and strongly suggest you remedy that fact, immediately.  The fine colored sugar on the outside melts with the heat of a flame and then turns hard and crunchy as it cools.  The inside marshmallow gets soft and gooey and perfect.  We are huge fans of the original peep with all its round squishiness, but I'm sure any of the new shapes (Halloween is just around the corner, so be on the look out for ghost and pumpkin peeps) would be fabulous as well.  Buy your favorite and go to town!
